Last Sun Dance Climbing: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Probably the best Climbing Gym in the UK. They have a uniquely chill vibe, thoughtful and interesting route setting, a fully kitted out gym, a bar, pool table (free) and there's often friendly dogs hanging around too! We travel 90 minutes fairly regularly, despite having closer gyms! 100% worth a visit.
Fantastic experience: It’s got the vibes, unreal routes, seriously good coffee, seriously good pints. What more do you want
Fantastic experience: A really great community climbing wall in Leeds!
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere and good bouldering walls for all levels
Fantastic experience: Great place with great staff. Plenty of decent climbs, good gym facilities and clean changing rooms with showers.
Fantastic experience: Top quality Padel court, nice and private & can play your own music. Staff friendly and helpful. Definitely will be back!
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Dogs are welcome, cake and alcohol for afterwards. It has a gym upstairs. Routes are changed often so it's never the same for months. Staff are really friendly. Monthly membership is definitely worth it. Less children then other places such as The Lab.
Fantastic experience: By far the best climbing gym in Leeds. Incredible atmosphere, plenty of space to climb and the gym is always empty. + The bar has a great selection in beers
Fantastic experience: This place is fantastic. It's an eclectic mix of climbing wall, trendy coffee shop and wine bar. The routes are generally pretty interesting.
Fantastic experience: Best indoor bouldering wall in Leeds! Great route setting, positive and upbeat environment. Really friendly staff, awesome music and a great place to be
Fantastic experience: Very welcoming, good vibes Great variety in the levels of difficulty Can't rate this place high enough
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Leeds, everywhere else is garbage in comparison. Free pool and beer on tap love
Fantastic experience: Really nice climbing centre. Friendly staff and great setting. Fantastic gym setup here if that's what you are looking for.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely one of the best bouldering gyms about. The vibe is excellent the staff are lovely and the quality of the climbing is superb. Generally more modern style of bouldering in terms of root setting with lots of competition style routes and clearly a good hold budget. My daughter is eight years old and generally speaking I wouldn't advise that this place would be a great location for kids unless those kids are regularly climbing a high level. For adults I think this place cat is pretty well for most levels although there's definitely a good proportion of harder boulders. The seating area has a really cool vibe to it the bar is lovely and they've got some of the best cake in leads. The fact you can grab a beer after climbing is also a big advantage. They have a gym on the messaging area which is reasonably well equipped which is also another advantage if you're local and a member. The only negative that I've been able to find is that in winter the heating often is on and the places particularly cold which doesn't matter if you're doing short sessions but if you're trying to have a longer workout than it's not ideal. Quite often we have chosen to head over to somewhere like Depot Armley simply based on temperature. I fully understand however as it's quite a tall building and the volume of air to heat it's pretty significant. Overall though a really highly recommended Centre and somewhere they should definitely be on your list of places to climb!
Negative experience: Awful customer service
Fantastic experience: One of the best climbing gyms I’ve ever been to. Traveled all the way from London to try this gym and I was NOT disappointed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fantastic experience: The most aesthetically pleasing gym iv ever been to. The vibes are immaculate and so is the whole gym. Absolutely spotless. The staff were lovely and the coffee was banging, the music was good. I literally can’t think of any downsides apart from the fact I wish it was bigger but I could say that about any gym because more space means more routes which equals more climbs ;)
Fantastic experience: Been a member for a couple of months and been visiting this gym since April. Comfortably the best Climbing Gym I have ever been to. It’s that good it’s hard to know where to start. Staff are incredibly friendly. The gym facilities are great. The routes are great for people of all abilities. The changing rooms are clean and tidy. Very reasonably priced. Cannot recommend this place highly enough - I’ve brought two friends along who’d never climbed before and they both joined after 2 sessions.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic day out. Good Weather. Well done every one at bangers and cash. Well done..
Fantastic experience: Great gym with good beginner boulders. Staff always friendly and happy to help too.
Fantastic experience: Visited quite a few climbing gyms now and this one is by far the cleanist. Great gym upstairs as well that's got just about everything you need to get a decent session in. Coffee wasn't bad either definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: The best climbing place ive ever been to, visited around 10 across the UK, nothing compares
Fantastic experience: Great staff and environment, fun and challenging climbs
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to climb, great vibe and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Great centre, very modern! Not the biggest in terms of climbing space but definitely interesting walls. A full gym with proper machines. And loads of comfy seating. Just great.
Fantastic experience: Can't fault this climbing gym. Really great setting.
Fantastic experience: Love this gym. Some of the best setting in the area. The newly added cave is a great addition to what was already a good variety of wall space and they do a great coffee too.
Fantastic experience: Really varied and fun setting even on the lower grades. Great staff and good coffee.
Fantastic experience: LSD is a great bouldering centre. Cool vibes and great problems. Just fyi it is card only.
Fantastic experience: Great boulders, setting, holds etc. But it's just nicer than other climbing walls with regards to gym, seating, reception, toilets even. A cut above the rest.
Positive experience: Normally enjoy it, but went on the 27th of Jan, and knowing there was a competition later that day, called up to ask whether the climbing walls would be effected to which we were told only minimally. However upon getting there over half of the walls were unusable and we were rudely told by staff to stay away from certain areas. Not a great look for someone who was on the fence as to getting a membership.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. The walls are different every time u go. It's well kept and open late. They have a gym, bar and free pool table as well great vibes
Fantastic experience: Great place to climb for all levels. People were friendly and the coffee is good too!
Fantastic experience: Great bouldering gym, gets busy sometimes in the evenings, quite time through wk before 12pm, Friendly staff, nice toilets, carpark, showers all you need!
Fantastic experience: VERY cool climbing center. Nice people who work there and good people climbing. Bit difficult to find the first time. Use sat nav. Also have some good parties with music and drink till late but check which dates they do these as they are pretty ad hoc. Young clientele so lots of energy in the place
Positive experience: Good walls, a good range of difficulty within the grades which helped with progression.
Fantastic experience: It's a nice venue and a good atmosphere, I like the music , the wall has a much smoother almost polished wood surface and it doesn't have the usual friction, I don't see it as a negative as it makes for interesting climbing, thumbs up for me
Fantastic experience: Fun puzzles and nice environment. A little suggestion from me would be to put more easy climb downs.
Fantastic experience: The atmosphere here is amazing. friendly staff and nice gym. Nice music, chilled vibes, bar for drinks (hot, cold, alcohol), and very clean bathrooms. It's a shame it doesn't have any auto belay.
Fantastic experience:
Fantastic experience: Excellent climbing gym. Nice and spacious, clean and good coffee. The boulder problems are varied and fun.
Fantastic experience: Great problem setting, lots of variation even at lower grades. Coffee and beer are both very good. Changing rooms were nice and clean, and plenty of space for storage etc. Didn't use the gym upstairs but it looks well equipped. Definitely one of the best bouldering gyms I've been to.
Fantastic experience: Great bouldering wall
Positive experience: Went for the last sun dance night, was quite disappointed as I had high expectations because of the hype. But the gym got way too overcrowded to the point of being unsafe, and it was hard to get any chance to climb on the wall. There was a lack of gym etiquette from fellow climbers, they would often jump on neighboring routes before you had the chance to finish forcing you off the wall before you collided with them. Some of the footholds were very slippery as they needed a clean, Lack of cubby holes and no lockers.Toilets/changing room were very clean, could do with some benches in as there's definitely the space for it. Didn't use the fitness gym but the equipment all looked good and could definitely get a good workout there. I'm sure if we went at a quieter time our experience would be better and we might return next time we are in Leeds, but definitely give the LSD nights a miss if you hope to do any climbing. I would suggest they make the events ticketed to avoid overcrowding
Positive experience: Really tough boulders, set at a high standard. Not really for beginners. Nice place and only £6 entry. Recommended and aprt fro. Being in an awkward place for us, will go again. Staff really nice.
Fantastic experience: Incredible Staff! Great atmosphere and awesome bouldering with great setting. The music on blast is a great bonus too!
Positive experience: Why does good bouldering gym suddenly branch out into a hipster tap-house? It was a great new centre but the climbing has suffered, you can't hear yourself think as the 16yo 'DJ' mixes his first set, and the place has become an ampitheatre for the 45 taxi loads of bods in check shirts drinking beer outside and gawping at you bouldering like you're a rat in a cage. Shame - the gym is good.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and fantastic customer service
Positive experience: Love this place, plenty of challenges here. Friendly atmosphere and people, some of the holes need a clean as there's rubber on them so can't be brushed off, apart from that great place
Fantastic experience: Best climbing gym in Leeds, great people and the best plastic to jump around on and a great space for a beer afterwards
Fantastic experience: Good climbing wall, nice spacious centre with good setting.
Fantastic experience: First experience at this wall today. Class vibe, great staff, & the climbing facilities are rad af!
Fantastic experience: A fab climbing wall, with brilliant setting from V0 through to extra hard climbs. They really think about who is going to be pulling onto the boulders. They create great vibes and everyone who works there is so lovely. Highly recommend!!
Negative experience: I'm all about a DIY-aesthetic gym and a clubhouse vibe, and wish these people nothing but the best. But compared to a modern facility with trained and experienced setters, this gym just doesn't come close. It's currently (inexplicably) the best rated gym in Leeds, and, believing the hype, I subsequently wasted one of my only afternoons in town here. First, I'm aware of the huge up-front cost of steel-framed boulders, and again, I have nothing against a DIY-built gym. It's actually pretty sweet. However, wood framing means most of the terrain is slab, vertical, and just-off-vertical. Not a huge deal if the setting is on point. However... The routes feel like they're set by very strong teenage male gym climbers of above-average height, -for- very strong teenage male gym climbers of above-average height, and thus have all the shortcomings that would result from such a situation. Lots of big, spanny, shouldery moves, lots of gimmicky dynos, poor foot support, and a propensity for insecure and committing last moves high off the deck. Not to mention, a seriously confounding lack of crimps. Like, -so- few crimps. I can't imagine what it would be like for a shorter-than-average person to try to climb harder grades here. I was watching the setters set, and it was literally, "dynamic move to full-extension shoulder move, repeat". I had no idea the setting at a gym could actually make me -mad- (and I've been to dozens and dozens of gyms across the US and Europe), but that's exactly what happened. I hadn't planned on climbing both days I was in Leeds, but went to Depot Climbing Armley the next day and almost wept at how much better the setting was. I'm glad that people like the vibe here and are having fun (though it seems most of the reviews are from new, inexperienced climbers). If people want to hop around on plastic and drink beers, that's totally cool. But if you want a gym that actually approximates the movements and skills involved in and necessary for -actual- rock climbing, you should certainly look elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Really good music and a chill atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: Incredible vibe, incredible climbs, incredible staff and an overall great experience- cool gym too!
Fantastic experience: One of the best bouldering gyms I've visited. Wish it was closer so I could visit more often.
Fantastic experience: Love this place
Fantastic experience: Fantastic venue. Really nice vibe and a great balance of different challenges. Nice folks too. Cheers guys
Fantastic experience: Love LSD, love the vibe, love the climbs, and the coffee is decent. I think the route setter suits my climbing style as the climbs are fun and interesting, and I always manage to climb my best at LSD. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and they also have a good gym set up upstairs, which is a bonus. Although this wall is well out of the way for us to visit for a mid week trip, it's well worth the effort getting over on a weekend.
Fantastic experience: I enjoyed my experience at this climbing centre a lot. The staff were very friendly. 5/5 would recommend
Fantastic experience: Vibey
Positive experience: The place to climb for all abilities. friendly staff, food, coffee and beer
Fantastic experience: LSD is our preferred climbing gym in Leeds. The route setting is great with a friendly atmosphere and staff. They also do good beer and bar snacks for when you have finished climbing.
Positive experience: Great vibe in here, buy very busy.
Fantastic experience: Oh of my favourite climbing walls. Good setting and just a nice environment to be in. The team is great and are always very helpful.
Fantastic experience: great climbing wall with a nice variety of holds. routes are reset regularly and setting isn't based on colour each route is just marked with its V grade so if you can't climb a problem one session as it is way above your grade, next session the same style holds might of been reset into a problem you can do. there is also a bar there to enjoy a pint after a climb. the coffe is pretty good and on Fridays they have a DJ and it's free to climb, this does make it pretty busy though
Fantastic experience: Epic time cool place
Positive experience: Went for one of the live dj nights, £3 for shoe hire and some good musics! Expensive drinks but to be expected
Fantastic experience: Lovely centre with super welcoming staff. Coffee and cake was fantastic, and worth the price. Climbs had a good mix of styles and grades, though the walls aren’t textured so difficult to smear. Highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Warm atmosphere… super chilled….great spot in my opinion hats of to the team
Fantastic experience: What a great experience we had as a first time goer! The place is so relaxing and the atmosphere was amazing! Loved it!
Fantastic experience: Great place to climb and good coffee too
Fantastic experience: Love it, best climbing gym for adults in Leeds
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere, friendly staff and challenging climbs
Positive experience: First ever place visited for climbing amazeing atmosphere, climbers were very friendly, really enjoyed the experience defo go again
Fantastic experience: Quirky climbing gym with a full gym included!! Challenging routes. The holds are quite far apart so definitely more suited to taller climbers. Lots of cool overhangs. Sofas, cakes, a bar (!) ready to enjoy. Music and “club” nights held occasionally! Very cheap. The bathrooms are really bougie and have showers in them too. Dogs welcome ☺️
Fantastic experience: Awesome fancy independent bouldering place. Decent size with lots of walls to choose from. The changing rooms and toilets are really fancy
Fantastic experience: Great bouldering gym which has probably my fave in Leeds over the last year. Lots of space, both for climbing and socialising. Good route setting with a lot of more modern competition-style boulders. Grades range from V0 to V10 and are all labelled with the specific grades, rather than the coloured ranges you get at most UK walls. Interesting choice that most of the walls are frictionless and therefore impossible for smearing. Not a bad thing but definitely quite different to most other climbing centres and provides its own challenge. It's good that the setting even at lower grades uses cool holds and fun setting styles rather than just being boring and straightforward. There is a gym as well with good facilities, although I'll be honest that I don't really use them!
Fantastic experience: Great walls, regularly reset, added bonus of a mezzanine gym plus awesome bar and baked goods for sale. What more do you want?!
Fantastic experience: L.S.D. = touch the rainbow, feel the rainbow
Fantastic experience: Great wall, really good problems. Great gym facilities upstairs too.
Fantastic experience: Great setting, great coffee, great atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: I liked it here. Friendly staff and lots of options to have a go at.
Fantastic experience: Good bouldering place with very cool problems
Fantastic experience: Interesting setup with a great range of routes
Positive experience: Lovely place to spend your leisure time, staff are very friendly, I recommend popping in!
Fantastic experience: Great problems, friendly staff and great cafe. Just gets better month on month. Fantastic climbing centre.
Fantastic experience: Amazing climbing gym. There are also dogs
Fantastic experience: Amazing bouldering centre! Having never been before I was met by friendly staff and competitive rates. Even better entry for students!! The bar space and relax area was perfect with lots of options and a great menu of food and drink. The gym was great with new machines in great condition. The climbing area is perfect a great mix for all skill levels and experience with some challenging features. I will been making a return to last sun dance asap!
Positive experience: Good centre with quality setting,a bar to have a pint or two after your session and the staff is really friendly however there isn't any changing room or cubby holes to store your stuff. The centre itself is huge but feels a bit "unfinished". Otherwise it's a great centre
Fantastic experience: Other half thoroughly enjoyed this and a well set up venue for bouldering.
Negative experience: We’ve only been to 4 climbing walls in the leeds area, and this one is the worst. Pros: The staff are friendly and there are a lot of routes. Plenty of sofas to relax and recover in and they have a bar which sells alcohol, soft drinks and coffee. Cons: There’s no changing area except for the toilets and no storage for your belongings. The place is massive so they have plenty of space for these basic things. As for the climbing, they don’t use colour coded routes, which isn’t a problem, but the grading system they do use is inconsistent (some v4/v5s are much simpler than some v3s) and geared towards more advanced climbers. There are not enough routes to keep beginners interested, and even some of the V3 routes require intermediate skills if you stand a chance at solving them. Also, we’ve been here twice now and we've number of routes that were not even classified and had no clear starting points. We wouldn’t go back unless things improved.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, low walls very open and stylish. The wall is smooth, unless there is grit tape. This takes some getting used to. Staff are friendly and welcoming.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic climbing area and gym
Positive experience: Fantastic, but cold
Fantastic experience: Fantastic bouldering gym - super modern with amazing facilities and a wider array of climbing holds, even on the easier grades.
Fantastic experience: Great.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant bouldering experience. Top notch gym and very reasonably priced.
Fantastic experience: Excellent for bouldering, brilliant friendly atmosphere
