The Edgbaston Priory Club: Reviews
Positive experience: Flying visit delivery, friendly helpful...
Negative experience: A very jolly place, tad too la di da for my liking, not really for people who just want to work out, stay healthy, get in and out. Its more a load of swans and gooses silly dallying around, just getting in the way. Thd hygiene standards are poor, badly maintained, zero controls in place. And far too many people there just to ve seen, very sad membership. Management are utterly useless and unreceptive to change. It's a tired, old lake dressed up as fresh running water. I had more fun and return at BU.
Fantastic experience: The best club in Birmingham, very friendly atmosphere and staff.. Everyone there seems to be extremely polite and helpful. The Crèche is the most spacious and cleanest with the most professional lovely ladies in it! Me man dmy kids enjoyed it very much I feel very sad that I moved out of Birmingham and I had to join David Lloyd now. Otherwise I would be their member for ever.
Fantastic experience: Amazing venue, everything you need is there. We will come back again
Negative experience: The priory club is an okay place some staff are nice but some of the members are disrespectful, rude and no mannered. They always nip in your business and are always looking at you and commenting and laughing. As a person who does Intense workouts in the Clubhouse studio after the classes finish with my speaker I get harassed by some members complaining about me for no reason and it annoys me because I have done absolutely nothing wrong because apparently me doing a few squats and some exercises too some music is apparently they consider is “innapropriate”. The staff have been nice too let me use there Fitness studio which is great but the some members are absolutely disrespectful. Not too mention they walk around the changing room naked with no clothes on or a towel when there are little children around and having a full on conversation whilst being completely naked.
Negative experience: Despite the high cost of membership, this club has ridiculous policies. Members are not allowed to use the bar or social areas for work or laptop use without a prior booking, and even then, it's limited to just 3 hours per day. Many members, including myself, used to rely on this space for full-day work sessions. Additionally, bringing your own food or drinks into the lounge or bar areas is not permitted—even though the food provided by the club is consistently poor. Members should have the freedom to eat or drink what they prefer and to use communal areas as they see fit, especially given the premium price point. I’ll be switching to David Lloyd as soon as my membership expires.
Negative experience: I have been a member of Edgbaston Priory Club for almost two months, and I regret joining every single day. The hygiene standards in the changing rooms and showers are shockingly poor. The products provided for showers are of the lowest possible quality, with an unpleasant smell that makes the experience even worse. During one visit, I ordered a burger in the restaurant, and it was absolutely disgusting. I honestly couldn’t tell if it had been dropped on the floor or just prepared with zero care, either way, it was inedible. I emailed the manager about this issue, but nothing has changed since. For the price this club charges, the facilities, food quality, and overall standards are unacceptable
Positive experience: Very nice venue and courts. The rain was the main element of dissatisfaction.
Negative experience: Not a great place for Padel
Fantastic experience: I always have a very good experience at my club lovely place great staff and in the beautiful weather is like been on holliday
Fantastic experience: Great club. Good atmosphere with lots of facilities
Fantastic experience: This is a private club with a number of membership options. The facilities are on a par with the best of the David Lloyd centres. The club offers: an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, several Squash courts, 8 indoor tennis courts, grass and artificial tennis courts, padel courts and a bar and restaurant. The club's location is also a benefit. Two car parks are available one accessed from Priory Road and one from Sir Harry's Road. Note that the latter cannot be approached directly from the Bristol Road.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful club. I take tennis lessons here and everyone is lovely and welcoming!
Fantastic experience: This is the first health club I actually enjoy and feel comfortable enough to attend. With saying this, my review is purely going to surround Jessie, Jude, and Tanjeena! I just wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the incredible team at the pool, especially lifeguards Jessie and Jude, and the wonderful receptionist, Tanjeena. Their professionalism, attentiveness, and friendly demeanour truly made my experience exceptional. From the moment I arrived, Tanjeena greeted me with a warm smile and a welcoming attitude. She was incredibly helpful, answering all my questions with patience and ensuring that I felt comfortable before heading into the pool area. It’s clear that she genuinely cares about providing excellent customer service, and her positive energy set the tone for a great visit. Once I had joined, immediately felt at ease under the watchful eyes of Jessie and Jude. Their presence alone was reassuring, but what really stood out was how engaged and attentive they were. They maintained a perfect balance of professionalism and approachability, always keeping a close watch on swimmers while also being friendly and encouraging. As someone who sometimes feels a bit uneasy in the water, knowing that Jessie and Jude were on duty gave me a newfound confidence. Their awareness, quick responses, and willingness to offer guidance made all the difference. It was evident that they take their roles seriously and are truly dedicated to the safety and well-being of everyone at the pool. Jessie was super approachable and I 100% feel more ease going into the pool and walking around. Thanks to Jessie, Jude, and Tanjeena, my experience was not just safe but also enjoyable. Their exceptional service and dedication deserve to be recognised, and I’m incredibly grateful for their hard work. I would pure recommend this gym based off these three people and how comfortable they had made me feel.
Fantastic experience: Great leasure club with nice environment The quality of the facility offers a variety second to none in Birmingham which suites anybody that's active. The best facility for families I may add something that seems to be overlooked far to often.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities with a community feel. Also a great coworking space during the week.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic club for all racquet sports, gym, swimming and general lifestyle. Great food too with a new Chef - just had Pan-Fried Hake (daily fish special) and it was perfectly cooked. Great value too.
Fantastic experience: Elegant club with a lot of indoor and outdoor activities. I like the squash area there.
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting how the two receptionists at the front treat people. Not sure was it because of my race I didn’t even receive hello hi from them. They were very unhelpful and rude. The car park was full & I asked them politely if I can park on disable bay & I will move my car if needed because the weather is awful. The disable bay was nearly empty. It was raining bad and very windy out there. They kept refusing. Last year I had the same issue but the person at reception was very helpful & let me park as I had to carry a lot of stuff for event. I can’t believe how nasty they can be with people. The management really needs to teach their receptionists how to treat people with respect. No matter who we are we should be treated in a respectful way.
Fantastic experience: The tennis club has indoor facilities for members including a swimming pool, bar and shop. There's parking and an outdoor tennis area A couple of my EFL (European and International) students have enjoyed playing tennis there (the summer camp and some private 1-2-1 tennis lessons). This video is a private lesson in autumn 2018
Fantastic experience: Excellent club and facilities.
Fantastic experience: Private tennis, squash and gym centre
Positive experience: The water temperature in indoor pool was definitely less than what they claimed.
Fantastic experience: This is the best Tennis Club I know. It is by far the best in the West Midlands. Its too expensive for me to be a member but if I could afford it I would jump at playing here. The club boasts dozens of top quality courts, hard and grass, and indoor and out. They also have a pool, gym and squash coruts along with a cafeteria and much more. They also do a lot of community work to provide tennis facilities and coaching for people outside their membership. The facilities are so good that they hold the annual pre Wimbledon womens tournament here each summer with the top WTA players competing.
Positive experience: Fantastic location and great tennis to watch. Was there all day, very quick getting in through security. Only minor whinge is that there is not much variety for food. Suggest you take your lunch with you.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous experience. 3rd year that we have been. Definitely going back next year
Positive experience: I went to visit a friend.
Positive experience: Went for quaterfinals day. Well organised , very reasonable parking. Good day all around . Reasonable choice of food stalls.
Fantastic experience: Watched the Tennis Birmingham Classic great atmosphere great staff
Positive experience: Good venue but facilities lacking in respect to food and drink.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful members club
Fantastic experience: Went here to watch tennis, what a well run event, the seats were a little hard and the food a little expensive but that is to be expected, the staff were very friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic day at the LTA Tennis. The weather helped as it was hot. We had seats right at the front, which was great. There's not much there if you don't like tennis. I paid £10.00 to park, which was worth it . It was a day to remember.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic tennis club in Birmingham with amazing facilities. Hosting an WTA (Womens) open every year which is a pleasure to visit, especially in the 1st week when not busy. Food and drink is fairly cheap and service is great
Fantastic experience: Really great location, great tournament in June each year
Fantastic experience: Such a lovely friendly relaxing place. All staff are so pleasant and well mannered
Fantastic experience: Very professional tennis courts, comfortable seats for the audience. Toilets, food and drink area, large screens, points and formation... Easy access, parking spaces, cheap tickets. I recommend this place to watch tennis matches with family and friends.
Fantastic experience: Always a good day out. Really love going to the competition in such a nice location
Fantastic experience: A day with a member. What a great and well run place. We will return
Negative experience: Try calling them goes to answer phone saying go to website. Employ someone to answer the phone please.
Fantastic experience: Superb private members club close to the city centre yet feels like a million miles from the city centre
Negative experience: This club used to be great, but currently it is not value for money. The swimming pools are too cold to swim, the changing rooms are dirty and have broken showers and it takes ages to get hot water, the family changing rooms are old, dirty and cold. The food is absolutely disgusting and expensive. The kids tenis classes have 20 kids with sometimes only one teacher. And when you make a complaint they never reply. Such a shame that once a lovely club is ruined.
Fantastic experience: Amazing sports place
Negative experience: Closes too early, especially on weekend. Why do you close at 8pm on Saturday and then 7pm on Sunday? A nice evening swim on the weekend after hard working week would be nice. Tried to address opening times with club but no luck. Used to close late pre Covid. Might have to join David Lloyd. Also they use cheap soaps in the showers. Not nice to charge premium prices on membership, and supply cheap products leaving skin feeling irritated and smelly like plastic.
Fantastic experience: Very good spot. Went there for some squash. Good staff, good facilities and a generally clean environment
Fantastic experience: Awesome place, with multiple courts available for your indoor and outdoor experience.
Fantastic experience: I feel very fortunate to be a member here and spend time with my family. The other members are all very friendly. Lots to do and great facilities.
Fantastic experience: Great courts to play
Fantastic experience: What a fantastic experience we had, thank you
Fantastic experience: Great place. What an amazing set up, will definitely be joining when we move to Moseley. I think charging a membership of £300 is a little excessive considering the yearly cost is already around £1400.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, excellent instructors and nice and clean facilities.
Negative experience: Shadier than Mary Poppins umbrella this place is a pastoral den for people who frequently use "gosh" and "golly gosh" if they really want you to know they really really mean it. The fisticuffs usually occur where one has been parking under the same tree since they've been coming or where one wants to float across the grass without getting their legs wet.
Fantastic experience: Saw some good tennis matches. Easy to park, no queues or hassle getting in.
Fantastic experience: Good convenient location at Birmingham. Walking distance from city centre but regarding the venue, nice relaxing time to watch alone or with family/friends, lot of food options and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: This is an excellent venue for the WTA250 tournament in June. There's really close seating, a good refreshment marquee and various hot food vans. The volunteer marshals are friendly and helpful and the compere who does the announcements and interviews is wonderfully cheerful and upbeat. A great tennis day out.
Fantastic experience: A well laid out and organised Tennis event
Fantastic experience: Great day out for the ladies tennis. Nice to have parking but it’s way too expensive.
Positive experience: Catering was average. Security were helpful. The tennis action was good. Catering better now that covid restrictions lifted. Good atmosphere on centre court. Again security were helpful on my latest visit
Fantastic experience: Third visit to the tournament and it improves every year. Nice and relaxed atmosphere, plenty of food and drink with really helpful colleagues around. Prices are also reasonable, highly recommended
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience first time watching tennis live. If you love tennis you should do it. We got to watch one of the greats venus, Williams. There are different places to buy food and drink bit you could take your own. Staff were really good and helpful.
Fantastic experience: A late start but a good day at the tennis saw five matches 3 singles and 2 doubles very enjoyable and all good matches, service on site very good with friendly helpful staff will be going again next year
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to watch WTA.
Fantastic experience: Service here is top notch, visited as a guest of a member. Members facilities are very high standard.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous facilities for squash/racketball and padel. Outdoor/indoor pool . Gym, Sauna, steam bar and bistro
Fantastic experience: Absolutely beautiful place and very professional staff
Fantastic experience: The venue and facilities are excellent. Nice bar area with a range of food and drink options.
Negative experience: Recently joined this club and the cafe, family room and bar area has worn out tatty and ripped sofas. The tables are filthy and not worth the £300+ joining fee and the £100+ monthly subscription. Absolute unacceptable that a premium club has this level of worn out furniture and cleanliness. Tried to upload pics of the worn out sofas but can’t seem to see them on here. Can you please get these sofas replaced, it’s extremely off putting and I’m considering leaving to join David Lloyd.
Fantastic experience: This is THE club in Birmingham to play squash if that's your game !
Positive experience: Great indoor and outdoor pools with steam room and sauna to relax in
Fantastic experience: Great engaging classes for children of all ages. Good instructors, they work really well with the kids.
Positive experience: Went recently for a function food was takeaway pizza and needed more staff at the bar
Fantastic experience: My son attended the squash camp this summer (Thursday and Friday) it was amazing.. Well organized, nice coaches and good atmosphere for the kids. Thanks Mike Edwards for your hospitality and kindness. Regards to all the staff.
Negative experience: Nice facilities but for some strange reason, they have stopped answering the phones. Also closes too early, gym should be open until much later. I have had to get membership at a separate gym. Food prices way too high.
Negative experience: Not for anyone who wants a good atmosphere everyone in the gym is in a mood and old always moaning about the smallest of things. Staff are literally non existent
Fantastic experience: Wonderful had a fab time at the Roseley tournament plus the meal was excellent. Extremely well organised. Staff could not do enough for you.
Fantastic experience: It looks like a great place for doing Sport and active time spending. There are also places to rest, however it's especially for tennis play in many ways. Atmosphere are friendly and complex looks professional for many visitors. Car Parks are from both sides of object, such a interesting place in Birmingham.
Fantastic experience: Great Improvement in grounds and tennis courts. Loved it x
Fantastic experience: fantastic facilities best ball crew I've seen at any tournament
Fantastic experience: Superb!!! ❤️
Fantastic experience: Had a fabulous day at the Birmingham classic tennis tournament. It really is a beautiful location, and the tennis players athleticism is incredible. Would love to visit again for sure!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic Event, brilliant facilities and well organised
Positive experience: Great venue, excellent weather, but my wife found it hard to negotiate the steps down to the low level in the stands as there was no handrail.
Fantastic experience: Amazing club we use it as a family now for over two years it’s absolutely lovely services, staff and have so much to offer for children that’s what we need more of.
Fantastic experience: Lovely club with excellent facilities.
Fantastic experience: Stunning tennis and squash club. Attended a squash tournament here and was impressed with the facilities. The club is set in beautiful grounds with external courts set in landscaped grounds. The main building itself appears to have been refurbished recently as the finishes are to a high standard and clean. All in all a great experience.
Positive experience: Were here for a private party this evening, drinks were over priced but venue wasn't so bad
Fantastic experience: Food excellent, staff friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Brilliant staff and amazing facilities, I feel welcome every time I visit.
Fantastic experience: Lovely modern gym with all you need, including a place to rest, eat and drink
Fantastic experience: Been to numerous tennis clubs up and down the country. This has got to be one of the best. Friendly staff and great facilities.
Negative experience: The food in the cafe is awful and STUPIDLY EXPENSIVE. Worse quality than Wetherspoon and x3 the price. The staff got orders and prices wrong. Was told I’d be getting two slices of toast and two eggs but only one of each was served.
Fantastic experience: Visited a few days ago, its absolutelly gorgeous! Heated pool outside, squash and tenis courts. Beautifull club and bistro and the management made it even nicer for us!
Negative experience: The management here is abysimal, with a self-serving committee who couldn't care less what you think. The only serving grace of this place is it's members, many of whom have been leaving in droves because of the way the club is run. Please safe yourself a headache and consider other leisure centres before paying extortonate fees for a sub-standard, "computer says no" service.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful club, excellent squash courts - extremely well maintained. Loved my visit.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel and lovely staff. If you want to stay in central Birmingham then you can't get a better location for Broad Street and when they finish the tram lines and it's up and running it'll be even better. There is a fantastic entrance lobby , the bar area and restaurant looks nice but we didn't have time to use them so can't comment on that. The rooms were great all the usual things in the room, even an iron! And very comfortable beds, all clean and smelling nice. We paid a very good price for the weekend so have no complaints at all. Thanks for a great weekend
Fantastic experience: Such a great place. Superb.
Fantastic experience: A fantastic club with first class facilities. The WTA event was on which was Covid safe and well managed. A better facility than the current chain brands!
Fantastic experience: I attend a Rhythmtime class here with my little one each week. Beautifully clean place and friendly staff. Gym facilities and pool look lovely.
Fantastic experience: Simply the best place! The restaurant and booths area are so comfortable. Could spend all day doing my work here. Only possible improvement is for the gym- could do with a couple of more assisted weights machines. Otherwise, an amazing club
Positive experience: This place is very pleasant and nice. The staff are also very friendly. However, maintaining the same price because of Corona makes me hesitate to join. Banquet is not working... I think it needs to improve the ideas available outdoors for the family. Outdoor fitness is not good... Despite there us a nice place
