Negative experience: INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY AT KINGSWOOD CLUB: Partner went to the gym with his friend who are regulars and went to the sauna area. Man who was not following the rules pushed my partners friend who had his phone incase his pregnant wife called. Threatening him not to take photos of him because he was naked in the area which is against the rules, my partner and his friend were minding their own business and the man who was in a bad mood decided to pick on them. My partner left the gym with his friend to find out they had been banned. This was not just a micro aggression. They heard the other white party’s side and banned my partner for being associated with his friend even though they did not retaliate to this man’s behaviour. Power plays are keeping this club afloat and it is a shame as my partner lost 10kg in 2 weeks, motivated normal people trying to make a life change having lost an opportunity because of people who were blatantly not following rules picking on people. My partner was homeless , we worked hard to get a comfortable life enough for us and my mentally disabled partner who we had finally been stable to afford gym that was close to us because he was agoraphobic. Kingswood club be ashamed of what their club stands for. *** Update on the situation kingswood club did not want to have a meeting to speak about the situation. Told my partner to wait a few weeks but instead changed it to minimum a year. Manager Alex not want to hear anything about the situation as he had heard all the information he needed which is strange as nobody has been in contact to ask about our side of the story. They seem to not to want to confront customers and instead take charge when customers are not there to defend themselves. Despite countless tries of emailing they did not email or call back but instead answered the phone giving short responses after a few days of trying to get into contact with Alex the manager. *** Update : My partner has been ‘white’ listed despite people we know from this incident and other club members alerting us that the other parties were allowed back to the gym after 6 months. The only way we know is going in person and immediately denied entry , given a refund and not told an answer, or excuse as to why they were not allowed in. Would be nice if we had some answers or any form of contact except for writing reviews, instead of being denied a reason or meeting with management as they have all the contact details on the account. Worker at the club obviously do not want to speak about this incident to anybody but internally gossip within themselves and the customers at the club when asked when I can return they said not for the unforeseeable future and not a timeframe which we know others involved were given. Tom had people standing behind him with crossed arms so clearly knew who they were and refused to give a reason, although being informed that they had mental health problems and for this sake wanting to know a reason, they ignored him and asked which card they want the refund on. The health team and careco of this person has been notified about how this gym is not suitable for people with disabilities and mental health problems. This is not the place to go to if you want to rehabilitate your mental or physical health.

Negative experience: I went here for a massage I booked in with Clare she was so rude I didn't recommend it

Fantastic experience: I have been a member since 2007 that's how good Club Kingswood is a very helpful friendly gym. I am sorry to leave it but I am retiring abroad so have no choice but to cancel my membership. Great gym circuit, studio classes and virtual classes that suit. I strongly recommend Club Kingswood. Hope I find a similar gym in Spain.

Negative experience: My friend and I have been attending this facility on and off since the end of the pandemic with no issues whatsoever great staff as well as for the establishment always kept to great standard. Today his membership has been terminated due to a very scandalous misunderstood situation which to me is very concerning as a foreign customer myself seeing that he had not been given the opportunity to be heard and the other individual whom had been tormenting him throughout his session, did not see any type of consequence. I am very disappointed with Club Kingswood and would not recommend this venue any more to anyone looking for a luxury fitness experience. They’re bottom barrel in terms of customer service and are extremely biased with anyone who has a foreign ethnic background. I try not to pull race cards as it is a stereotype but today. The stereotype has once again been proved to still be in place. Disgusting behaviour from this place!

Negative experience: Unfortunately have people in the gym that disrespect the rules and ruining people’s opportunities of using an otherwise lovely club. It is a shame. Threatening to hurt people that were minding their business and not hearing out the victims of the situation. Banning people affiliated with the victim of the situation which is unreasonable. Waited for them to leave saying they were ‘investigating’ and called their number once off the premises to ban them.

Whether you need cardio machines, weights machines, cables, benches (barbels and free weights) or even a whole area with 8 squat racks there is plenty to pick from every session. highly recommend 5*

Positive experience: Update 4 years later * Unfortunately, had to cancel my gym membership due to the cost - although 4 years ago the cost was doable nowadays it's just not justifiable. And was not really able to utilise the facilities. Its definitely is a wonderful gym and the equipment is top notch (so technically cost is justified ) The car park does really let down this gym too. 2020 Reveiw This is by the far the most friendliest, cleanest and welcoming gym I have ever joined. I've joined about 3 gyms here in basildon and this one by far knocks them out the park. It's nice to see approachable staff here and how they interact with people. The equipment is brilliant quality and I'm particularly enjoying EGym!! Me and my mum literally love coming here and I've never had a gym where I've wanted to go whereas this ones different. It is one of the expensive gyms there are but I always say you get what you pay for and in this instance this is good thing. They have clear rules about covid restrictions and it make me feel comfortable to go there.

Negative experience: Personal Trainer Review: I cannot recommend Heather Samson as a personal trainer. While the gym owner is dedicated to attracting and retaining clients, it's disheartening when a team member seems indifferent to their responsibilities. As a beauty salon owner, I understand the importance of a committed team. It can be frustrating when someone in the team appears to be just collecting a paycheck without any genuine concern for their work or clients. My experience with Amber Samson was disappointing. In the month leading up to my final sessions, I noticed a concerning lack of professionalism. When I wanted to train, I expected to receive the support I needed, but instead, I faced unnecessary complications that ultimately wasted my time and money. I hope this feedback helps others make an informed decision.

Fantastic experience: Consistently good classes gym, staff and bar / restaurant now with regular cleaning / housekeeping which is now covid safe orientated and includes regular deep cleans in spa areas. Great staff doing a tough job, props to Steve, always tries his best Have used all aspects of the club and been a regular user / member since I first visited over 20 years ago including the bar and restaurant, steam and sauna spa area, squash and racquetball courts, fitness and yoga classes, swimming pool, boxing and martial arts classes, spinning, weight training including the new egym and even hired rooms for our regular company meetings and lunches. It would be hard to be over critical of anything as its generally great in all areas, pretty lucky to have such outstanding facilities so close by. Like every facility its not perfect, there are a few annoying problems like low pressure in the spa area showers that I have reported to Tom and will not reduce the review score as I know he will address them. Update Dec 2021, new spin studio been open a while now, quality bikes and audio / video equipment which make the virtual spin tours a good experience Annoying bits Steam room is consistently not hot or steamy and sometimes takes 45 minutes before any steam comes out Not enough hooks in spa areas resulting in people having to put their towels on the wet floor Showers in spa area are consistently poor (low water pressure) Update. The showers are renewed but possibly the worst showers I have ever used. Need to press them 3 times and wiggle the control to tease them into life then they produce hot water for 9 seconds until stopping so you need to press them to restart, had better showers in Thailand with a room that cost £3 per night Not enough hooks for towels resulting in people putting towels on floor or chairs. Need more towel hooks Oct 2022 New weight lifting equipment in gym Always lots of choice in classes and happy that boxercise has returned Oct 2023 Ros continues to set high standards as an instructor for classes like body pump, all instructors should use her as a benchmark. Water machine is worse than useless, takes 2 minutes to fill a water bottle, need a replacement urgently

Fantastic experience: I am a personal trainer and have had my own business providing training for arpind 10 yesrs now. I have been using Kingswood on and off for over 20 years now. And even when I had my own facility I recommended Club Kingswood to my clients as my gym of choice. I have trained and enjoyed the facilities all over Essex and I still can't help but come back to Kingswood. It has a great inclusive atmosphere, trainers and staff are well educated and very helpful, facilities are kept clean and tidy and equipment is regularly updated and upgraded where needed and repairs are carried out promptly. You would need to travel a long way outside Basildon to find a better facility.

Fantastic experience: Regretfully, I have to leave this club due to personal reasons, but I cannot recommend or give high enough praise for it. The entire team of staff are the most welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable people you could ever wish to meet and I will miss them all very much. The club itself is incredibly well equipped without being intimidating, as the rooms are all divided. The classes, which I thoroughly enjoyed, are extensive and frequent. What also gives the club its unique atmosphere is the diverse clientele that all use it at the same time. This made me feel very comfortable as everyone was so welcoming and friendly. I know this is a long review but if you guys see this, I want to say every single one of your names personally to express how much you've helped me and been such an amazing, supportive, kind, friendly, funny, sweet, lovely bunch of people. For anyone looking for a high end club that's more than reasonably priced, look no further than Club Kingswood. I will really miss you all.

Negative experience: I have had membership for about 3 years but I am not happy with the gym anymore due to the fact being told not being allowed to use the gym epuiqment by one of the staff membership I'm not paying such a high amount of monthly membership and not being allowed to use epuiqment even when my membership includes the use of the gym. She was so rude cancelling my membership today

Fantastic experience: Very nice! Lovely bar area, great also for hiring for private parties. Excellent room for dancing and a balcony with nice views, terrific in the summer months. Negative experience: Don’t join up if you don’t want to be targeted and humiliated by rude and unprofessional staff with a personal ‘opinion’ about the ‘appropriateness’ of your swimwear but no company policy. My daughter was wearing a standard tie sided dark green bikini (not a thong) and was challenged in the changing room about how it fit around her bottom, by the manager under the guise of ‘safeguarding’ children - abhorrent insinuation and treatment of members. They then mocked her by laughing and rolled their eyes at her when she quite rightly challenged them and asked to see their policy on attire which clearly doesn’t exist. Avoid - Avoid - Avoid.

No shower for disabled to sit while showering could do with bringing up to date with the times. Disabled people should have access to everywhere nowadays. Enjoying it. But could be better.

Fantastic experience: A while back I wrote: A long-term member I both give and receive greetings from both staff and fellow members. The new e-gym equipment is a good example of how facilities are kept up to date, and the personal results are both encouraging and flattering! Clean and comfortable, I visit most days and am glad that we live nearby I am now adding the following (July 2022) We have just had a significant Wedding Anniversary and wanted to arrange a ‘get-together’ of family and friends to celebrate. We couldn’t accommodate everyone at home so decided to see what Club Kingswood could offer. The Restaurant Manager was excellent at noting dietary and other needs and on the day the food was clearly labelled, well-presented and tasty. The Manager, Denise, had even cooked a Vegetarian Lasagne for those who did not want the hog being roasted by Paul Benson. The weather was almost too good, some of our guests sitting under parasols on the balcony, while others kept cool in the air-conditioned interior. The subsequent feedback from all our guests has been excellent, and I am pleased to recommend these facilities to others.

Fantastic experience: I love Club Kingswood. I was introduced by a friend to do outdoor yoga classes when everywhere else was closed due to COVID. I now visit almost every day. They have a wide range of classes and racquet sports and amazing gym equipment. I have recently added the gym to my membership and mostly use the egym which keeps me motivated. There is also a swimming pool and spa. Club Kingswood has transformed my life. The staff and trainers are all so friendly and helpful and I have made new friends.

Fantastic experience: Joining this gym has literally changed my life. At 64, I was really noticing a drop in strength and mobility. 8 weeks on using the egym machines and I've regained both. I've found all the staff friendly, approachable, and helpful. Also, much thanks to Tom who produced a workout elsewhere within the gymfor me, and advised on how to get the best out of each exercise.

Fantastic experience: Wasn't actually at Club Kingswood was playing golf at Basildon Golf Course. This is probably the best kept course in essex, the fairways are clean and grassy not bald and rough, the greens are unbelievable lush and fast. It has its challenges even the par 3s . When it's over the clubhouse is a joy to relax in or outside if weather permitting. Brilliant day out.

The strict cleaning regime in the gym makes me feel very comfortable and the spray bottles are a great idea. Checking temperature on arrival and separate entrance and exits were very reassuring. Fantastic experience: Since reopening after lockdown this gym has been simply amazing,everywhere is meticulously and constantly cleaned,the staff are brilliant and also wear protective pipe always. The classes are well spaced with workout zones actually marked out on the class floor! I simply cannot fault this brilliant club!

Fantastic experience: Kingswood is a fantastic gym, with so many lovely staff. They are all so friendly and helpful! The facilities are incredible and the value for money is better than any other gym I've been to. The new safety measures they have are very reassuring. All the equipment and any contact surfaces are wiped down regularly and they provide cleaning sprays for when you're in the gym. The staff wear masks and encourage good hygiene, which in times like these is great to see. They have effective one-way systems and ensure social distancing throughout the facilities.Thank you kingswood team!

Fantastic experience: Great club with plenty of facilities with a nice family feel to it. I have particularly been impressed with its attitude to safety following its reopening following the COVID lockdown. Sanitiser sprays are provided on entry and other places situated throughout the club, together with tissue paper for wiping the equipment. Members of staff are regularly cleaning commonly touched points like doors, banisters and lockers etc. There are also areas set up to control the flow of guests safely. Upon entry your temperature is also checked. Also, throughout the club there are various signs informing you of the rules and advice for the particular activity that you are doing. As an older member, these measure make me feel safe and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Was cautious stepping back into the gym when they opened back up after covid however club Kingswood have implemented prefect safety measures to ensure I’m comfortable and safe whilst working out and enjoying a beer in the bar

They have put in place effective adjustments and safety measures to protect the staff as well as for the members to enjoy their facilities as optimal as possible. Fantastic experience: Even after the new measures and restrictions were put in place at Club Kingswood it’s still a great place to go. The staff are always friendly and professional and the range of classes is fantastic. I feel safe at the club.

Fantastic experience: I have been member of the club for 8+ years. It is a great place to exercise, play squash or have food or pint in the friendly restaurant. All of the staff are always in good mood and that brings in nice energy through out your visit. The club keep on getting latest machines with recent ones where your data goes to cloud and you can review your workout stats. In Covid I have seen the measures put in place and they are very good. One stand out measure is where they have multiple cleaning bottles that each member carry with them when they hit gym to clean equipment after use. The communication through pandemic has been great through mails, FB and what app group. Currently they are allowing 3 people in Sauna and steam rooms and it is great to be back..Hoping they Squash will get back soon...

Fantastic experience: Great to be back at club. Feel totally safe! They have taken every precaution to keep members safe! Using hand sanitiser on entering club and taking your temperature before checking in at reception. We scan our own membership cards as we check-in at reception. There is a table in reception that has bottles of sanitiser which each member collects and with paper towel that is supplied around the gym - each member wipes down each bit of equipment they use whilst in the gym. Equipment has been moved and some removed in keeping with the social distances. Members can work out in a safe space. The studio’s have marked out with a workout area for each member to keep a safe distance whilst taking part in the class and keep classes to a smaller numbers - all keeping with the government guidelines!

Fantastic experience: Been a member since around 10 years old. The staff are friendly, happy to help and accommodating. The club has implemented COVID safe changes to keep members secure while using the facilities. If you play squash or racketball this club is for you... The facilities are the best in Essex!
